Conservatives Make History in Welsh Harp: Sapna Elected as Ward Breaks New Ground
In the Brent Borough Council elections on 7 May 2026, Welsh Harp ward delivered a landmark result for the local Conservative team — with Sapna Chadha winning one of the ward's three seats, making her the first Conservative councillor elected in Welsh Harp in recent memory.
Sapna polled 1,052 votes (9.45%), finishing second overall in a fiercely competitive race across 17 candidates. The three seats were decided by the narrowest of margins, with just 50 votes separating Sapna in second place from Labour's Iftekhar Ahmed in third. The top spot went to Labour's Amer Hussain Agha with 1,075 votes.
The result was agonisingly close for the wider Conservative team. Anand Kumar Roy came within a whisker of joining Sapna on the council, finishing fourth with 996 votes — just six votes behind Labour's Ahmed and a mere 56 behind Sapna herself. Mohammed Alghoul was not far behind either, polling 946 votes in fifth place. Together, the three Conservative candidates combined for 2,994 votes, demonstrating real depth of support across the ward and showing that with a slightly different distribution, all three could have taken seats.
With a turnout of 31.9% from an electorate of 12,246, the result reflects a genuinely engaged local electorate and a Conservative campaign that clearly cut through. The Welsh Harp Action Team (WHAT!) ran an energetic, community-focused campaign, and the results show it resonated.
Congratulations to Sapna on a well-deserved win. Welsh Harp now has a Conservative voice on Brent Council — and with the strength of support shown across all three candidates, the team will be fighting hard to build on this result.
